"Sri Krishna Beef Stall; Halal meat available"; Pictures of beef stall in Tamil Nadu goes viral

As Sangh Parivar campaigns against halal products rage in Kerala and elsewhere, the pictures of Sri Krishna Beef Stall went viral on social media. The stall in Tamil Nadu, owned by K Kannan, gained mileage on social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter for its name plaque with the message "Halal meat available".

The display board of the stall features images representative of Christian, Hindu and Muslim religions with pictures of Former Tamil Nadu Chief Ministers MGR and Jayalalitha. There are also pictures assumed to be the parents of the owner K Kannan. Underneath the name is a message (in Tamil) that reads, "Meat slaughtered in the halal manner available on order." The board also incorporates pictures of two bulls.

Though the board does not feature the location, the BSNL, VI phone numbers displayed belong to the Tamil Nadu circle.

The image first appeared on the Facebook page Kangleipak Mirror. It later appeared on several troll and parody pages including Puncturewala, Gomata The Holy cow, and Baba MaChuvera Singh.Several Twitter users noted that the practice of non-Muslims running halal meat shops is not a rare phenomenon in South India and that friendship across religions is in the culture of South Indian states. However, several also expressed displeasure over naming the beef stall "Sri Krishna". There are also rumours circulated that the shop owner K Kannan converted to Christianity. However, details regarding the shop and shop owner remain unavailable.

However, Indu Makkal Katchi, informed via Twitter that the board was removed following protests. Indu Makkal Katchi leader Thiru Arjun Sambath tweeted the information together with a picture of the shop without a board.
