New Delhi: In a tech-savvy move that can also make the highest court's transacions speedy and environment friendly at the same time, the Supreme Court is moving to link WhatsApp messaging service with its ICT (Information and Communication Technology) services.

Chief Justice DY Chandrachud announced on Thursday the new initiative launched by the Supreme Court, by which all the Advocates on Record and Parties in Person will receive important updates relating to the filed cases directly in their WhatsApp numbers. The CJI opined this has the potential of bringing a 'big bang impact', as reported by Livelaw.

"In the 75th year of its existence, the Supreme Court of India launches a small initiative. It has the potential to have a big-bang impact. Whatsapp messenger has been a ubiquitous service in our daily lives and has taken a role of a powerful communication tool. To strengthen the right to access to Justice and enhance transparency in the judicial system, the Supreme Court announces integration of Whatsapp messaging services with its IT services."

The CJI explained that the new initiative will facilitate the Advocates on Record and parties in person receiving automated WhatsApp updates/automated messages regarding electronic filing, Cause-lists and Orders and judgements.

The system will enable automated messages to be sent to the parties concerned once the cases are successfully filed. It will also include notifications about objections marked by the registry in the cases so filed. Then the cause lists will also be sent to all members of the bar by the registry.

The orders and judgements available on the website will also be sent through WhatsApp.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, the second highest law officer of the Centre, who was present in the Chief Justice's court, was quick to laud the move saying that the integration of the WhatsApp messaging facility is one more revolutionary step taken by the apex court and expressed his gratitude for the occasion.-
