Singapore urges citizens to avoid travel to Kashmir and Pakistan

Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has issued a fresh advisory urging its nationals to defer all non-essential travel to Jammu and Kashmir as well as Pakistan.

This latest update, released on Wednesday, builds on an earlier advisory issued on April 30, which had only warned against visiting “high-risk areas” in Pakistan. The new statement expands the caution to all travel to Pakistan and specifically to the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir in India.

The advisory particularly highlights border areas between India and Pakistan as regions of concern. Singaporeans currently in either country have been advised to remain alert, avoid large gatherings, closely follow local news updates, and adhere to any safety instructions issued by local authorities. They are also encouraged to eRegister with the MFA for better coordination and assistance.

The Ministry added that consular help would be available for any citizens in need during this period.

The advisory has prompted travel agencies in Singapore to reassess planned tours to both Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan. The ongoing tension has already impacted regional travel, with over 50 flights to and from Pakistan cancelled and several Asian airlines rerouting or halting services in affected areas.

This cautionary measure comes in the wake of increasing geopolitical instability in the region.
