Shimla: In Himachal Pradesh, former Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla took oath as the state’s 29th Governor on Saturday. The acting Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court, Justice Sabina, administered the oath of office and secrecy to him at Raj Bhawan in Shimla, PTI reported.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was also present at the swearing-in ceremony.

Shukla hailed from Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district and was a four-time MLA. He started into politics through his activism in BJP’s student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

The Chief Minister of the state, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, was present at the swearing-in ceremony.

Also, Senior BJP leader and former Governor of Jharkhand, Ramesh Bais, was sworn in as the 20th Governor of Maharashtra on Saturday afternoon.

Bombay High Court Acting Chief Justice SV Gangapurwala administered the oath of office to Bais at a brief function held in the Raj Bhavan, Mumbai.

In what is described as a special goodwill gesture, Bais took the oath in the Marathi language and was later felicitated with bouquets by Acting Chief Justice Gangapurwala and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Besides Shinde, his cabinet colleagues, Speaker Rahul Narwekar, prominent dignitaries, top officials and other select invitees were also present on occasion.

Bais, 75, was transferred from Jharkhand to Maharashtra last Sunday after the former Governor here, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, resigned to opt for retirement.
