Kolkata: Shatrughan Sinha and Babul Supiyo were named by Mamata Banerjee as her candidates for Asansol's parliamentary seat and Ballygunge assembly seats, respectively, on Sunday.

In a tweet, the TMC chief said he was glad to announce that former Union Minister and famed actor Shatrughan Sinha will be its candidate in the Lok Sabha by-election from Asansol.

"Sri Babul Supriyo, former union minister and noted singer, will be our candidate in Vidhansabha by-election from Ballygunge. Jai Hind, Jai Bangla, Jai Ma- Mati- Manush!" she added.

BJP MP Supriyo quit the saffron party and joined the TMC last year, leaving Asansol's Lok Sabha seat vacant.

Subrata Mukherjee, a former state minister, died leaving the Ballygunge Assembly seat vacant.
