Sharjeel Imam, a key figure in the anti-CAA-NRC protests, has been in jail for over four years, facing charges including sedition and inciting violence, without bail. Amid his ongoing legal battles, his brother, Muzammil Imam, shared on Facebook the news of their sister Farha Nishat's success in clearing the 32nd Bihar Judicial Service Examination.

Muzammil, a former spokesperson for Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal-United (JDU), expressed the family’s emotions in a Facebook post. He described the contrasting journeys of his siblings: Sharjeel’s continued fight for justice while incarcerated, and Farha’s new role as a judge, symbolising justice delivery. He also wished her the strength to ensure fairness and protect the innocent during her tenure.

Muzammil’s Facebook post reads

“This is the philosophy of life:

On one hand, brother will be in jail for fighting justice against oppression and on the other hand sister will now sit on the judge's chair for justice against oppression.

Younger sister Farha Nishat has passed the 32nd Bihar judicial service examination and has given the chance to make her brother proud today. And I hope in your term you do not let any innocent be oppressed by your decisions. May Allah give you courage and strength.”

Muzammil, who has a background in journalism, has consistently supported Sharjeel, defending him against allegations. In earlier posts, he described Sharjeel as an idealist devoted to societal and national well-being, attributing his imprisonment to his unwavering commitment to his beliefs.

Sharjeel was arrested on January 28, 2020, during the height of the anti-CAA-NRC protests. He faced serious allegations, including inciting communal tensions, instigating riots, and sedition. While he was acquitted in the Jamia violence case earlier this year, he remains imprisoned due to other pending charges.
