Search for Kerala trucker on 7th day; heavy rains hamper operations
text_fieldsAngola/Karnataka: The search for trucker Arjun, a native of Kerala's Kozhikode, who went missing in a landslide in Ankola, Karnataka, has entered the seventh day. Heavy rains in the area pose a severe challenge to rescue operations, which have been in progress under the leadership of the army since Sunday. Along with the search in the nearby Gangavali River, the plan is to remove the soil remaining on the bank and search it.
Meanwhile, a plea was filed in the Supreme Court to expedite the search, which the court listed on Monday. The Karnataka government said on Sunday that despite removing 98 per cent of the soil from the national highway, the lorry could not be found.
Two natives of Karnataka are also reported missing in a landslide. The army had stepped in to lead the rescue operation with a 40-member squad led by Major Abhishek. Later, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also reached the spot, who had not turned up at the site for the last six days.
It was learned that ISRO was going to provide satellite images of the accident site to help the rescue operations.
It was hoped that the location of the lorry could be found from the satellite images and rescue operations could be centralised.

Earlier, a search was made using radar in the heavy landslide area, but no definite signals were received to confirm the presence of the lorry. The rescue operation was carried out today on the basis of the radar signal, but in vain.
It was on Tuesday that Arjun's lorry got trapped in the landslide. However, the Karnataka administration intensified rescue operations only on Friday, following the intervention of the Kerala government.
