New Delhi: The Supreme Court has sought action taken against BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India chief Brijbhushan Sharan Singh from Delhi police, in response to the renewed protests by national wrestlers over his alleged sexual misconduct.

The Court also ordered the redaction of the names of the seven women wrestlers, who complained against Singh, from judicial records so as to protect the identities of the complainants.

The wrestlers alleged that the Delhi police have not registered an FIR on their sexual harassment charge against Singh.

The Supreme Court acknowledged the serious allegations of sexual harassment made by wrestlers who represented India in international games and stated that the matter requires consideration.

The wrestlers are currently protesting at Delhi's Jantar Mantar and have vowed to remain there until the police file an FIR in the case, alleging that their complaint was not taken seriously. The athletes had previously suspended their protest in January after receiving assurances from the sports ministry but have resumed their protest due to a perceived lack of action against the WFI chief.

Vinesh Phogat, the first Indian woman wrestler to win gold at both the Commonwealth and Asian Games, expressed scepticism and hoped that there would be no political interference this time around.
