SC seeks Centre's response to PIL asking door-to-door vax drive for disabled
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday sought the Centre's answer on a PIL demanding a door-to-door inoculation drive for people with disabilities.
In response to a petition from the Evara Foundation, a disability rights organisation, a bench chaired by Justice D.Y. Chandrachud sent a notice to the Union of India, requesting priority Covid-19 vaccination for the disabled, who are at greater risk of contracting the virus.
The Supreme Court also directed Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to provide it with the steps taken and the measures that are anticipated to be taken to allay petitioners' fears. The bench will reconvene to discuss the case again after two weeks.
The petitioner's lawyer, Pankaj Sinha, also requested that notice be given to the state governments in this case. The bench, on the other hand, emphasised that the Centre formulates health policy and would like to see how it addresses the concerns highlighted in the plea.
The court took note of the appeal made under Article 32, which seeks to draw emphasis to the steps needed to guarantee that persons with disabilities have easy access to vaccination.
