S Jaishankar hits back at Rahul on Ladakh ‘Territory Loss’, referring to ‘1962’
text_fieldsPune: Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday said that the land that the congress accuses as China occupy today was in fact occupied by China in 1962.
Jaishankar was hinting that the land in reference came to be occupied when Jawaharlal Nehru was the prime minister.
He was responding to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s citing of an official report on loss of territory in Ladakh to China.
“Sometimes they (referring to the opposition) spread news that they know is false. They project as if it happened just now, when it, in fact, happened in 1962... They won't talk about that," Jaishankar reportedly said.
A senior police officer in Ladakh said India has lost access to 26 of 65 patrolling points in Eastern Ladakh.
The report was presented at a conference attended by PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, according to NDTV.
Jaishankar attacked Rahul Gandhi in Pune, saying personally he would not go the Chinese ambassador to get inputs but to India’s military leadership.
He was referring to Rahul Gandhi’s 2017 meeting with the Chinese envoy during a standoff between two countries.
Back then Gandhi said he wanted to be informed on critical issues. Hence he met the Chinese Ambassador, (India's) Ex-NSA (National Security Adviser), Congress leaders from NE (North East) and the Bhutanese ambassador.
Jaishankar said foreign news outlets describe India’s BJP administration as "Hindu nationalist", but they will not use Christian Nationalist to refer to governments in America or Europe, adding that “These adjectives are reserved for us".
