New Delhi: A major road cave-in was reported near the National Law University in Dwarka on Sunday morning after heavy rainfall in the national capital, leaving behind a massive crater that nearly engulfed a vehicle.

No one was injured in the incident, but traffic was disrupted in Dwarka, one of the city’s busiest localities. The mishap has renewed concerns about the quality of road construction and maintenance in the area, which has witnessed similar cases earlier.

Officials said an investigation is under way, with preliminary findings pointing to waterlogging and poor construction as the likely causes. Residents and commuters have long raised complaints about potholes, flooding and sinking roads across Delhi, particularly during the monsoon season.

Local residents described the Dwarka cave-in as yet another reminder of the fragile state of the city’s road infrastructure.

Just days ago, on August 18, a large pit appeared in Delhi’s Burari area, causing a car to plunge into it. The incident occurred in a busy market but resulted in no casualties. Videos of the car trapped in the sinkhole went viral, showing locals pulling the driver out before a crane was used to remove the vehicle.

Earlier in February, a portion of the service lane in Dwarka Sector 12 near KM Chowk collapsed when a slab covering a drain gave way, causing a car to fall into the pit.

With back-to-back road cave-ins being reported, residents are questioning civic planning and accountability, urging authorities to act swiftly before these recurring incidents lead to major tragedies.
