Revanth Reddy, Owaisi plan to turn Telangana into a Muslim state: Union Minister
text_fieldsBJP leader and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar sparked controversy with remarks accusing Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi of plotting to turn the state into a “Muslim nation.”
Speaking during a campaign event in Borabanda on Thursday, he reportedly urged Hindus to remain alert, alleging that Owaisi’s ultimate goal was to make India a Muslim-majority country by 2047.
Accompanied by BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao, Sanjay was campaigning for the party’s Jubilee Hills bypoll candidate, Lankala Deepak Reddy. He criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and other Congress leaders for wearing skullcaps during the bypoll campaign, and provocatively challenged the CM to persuade Owaisi to offer prayers at the Bhagya Lakshmi Temple.
At a public meeting, Sanjay further courted outrage by mockingly referring to Congress candidate Naveen Yadav as “Naveen Khan” and BRS nominee Maganti Sunitha as “Sunitha Begum,” comments that drew sharp criticism for their communal undertone, Maktoob Media reported.
Continuing his inflammatory rhetoric, Bandi Sanjay Kumar reportedly warned voters that if opposition candidates won, community halls would be converted into mosques and that violence would erupt, claiming Hindu festivals like Vinayaka Chaviti and Dasara would cease to exist.
Appealing to Hindu voters to unite behind the BJP, Sanjay accused former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) of subjecting people to “a decade of harassment,” saying the BRS should now be “restricted to the farmhouse.”
He further promised that a statue of Shivaji Maharaj would be erected in Borabanda if BJP candidate Deepak Reddy won the bypoll and demanded an investigation into the death of former MLA Maganti Gopinath. Citing remarks made by Gopinath’s mother, Mahananda Kumari, he alleged that BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao might have been involved.
In a post on X, Sanjay urged Hindu residents of Jubilee Hills to “show their strength,” accusing both the Congress and the BRS of minority appeasement. He alleged that the Congress had promised a new Muslim graveyard by December 31 to secure minority votes, while BRS leaders had offered to personally fund it, claiming that only the BJP spoke for Hindus.
Sanjay, who is known for his hardline Hindutva politics, has a history of making provocative statements against Muslims — including remarks linking madrasas to terrorism, opposing Muslim reservations, and questioning the patriotism of Muslim voters.
