Ranchi kids rescued from nomadic gang after 12 days: Two held
text_fieldsRanchi: In a major breakthrough, Jharkhand Police rescued two abducted siblings, four-year-old Ansh and five-year-old Anshika, 12 days after their disappearance from the Dhurwa area. Two suspects have been arrested, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The children vanished on January 2 around 3 p.m. while heading to a nearby shop to buy groceries near Mausi Bari Khatal in Dhurwa. After frantic searches by the family failed, a missing persons report was filed on January 3, triggering public outrage and protests across Ranchi. The Dhurwa sub-town observed a bandh on Sunday, and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) sought a detailed report from the state police.
A 40-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by SSP Rakesh Ranjan, launched a massive operation. Investigators analyzed footage from over 2,000 CCTV cameras and scrutinized more than 5,000 mobile numbers using technical and human intelligence. Police also announced a Rs 4 lakh reward and launched a poster campaign with community support.
Crucial leads directed the SIT to Chitarpur in Ramgarh district, where the children were safely recovered. Preliminary findings point to members of a nomadic Gulgulia gang as the perpetrators. Both siblings are reported to be in good health and are being reunited with their family.
Interrogations of the arrested duo continue to uncover the motive and dismantle the broader network. Jharkhand DGP Tadasha Mishra is set to brief the media on further details.
