Jaipur: The BJP has expelled its Rajasthan unit leader for what he claimed a slip of tongue where he wanted to say ‘madrassas’ the leader said ‘gurdwaras’, upsetting BJP leaders in Punjab.

Following Sandeep Dayma’s controversial remarks, party leaders in neighbouring Punjab including Senior BJP leader and former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh demanded his sacking, according to NDTV .

Subsequently, the chairman of the Rajasthan BJP's disciplinary committee, Onkar Singh Lakhawat, issued a statement announcing Dayma’s expulsion.

‘Sandeep Dayma has been expelled from the party on the direction of the state president for making a statement against the ideology of the party,’ Onkar Singh Lakhawat was quoted as saying.

Sandeep Dayma recently allegedly told an election rally in Rajasthan's Alwar that mosques and gurdwaras will become ‘open sores’ and they should be uprooted, according to the report.

As his words went controversial, Dayma apologized claiming that he intended to say ‘mosque and madrassas’ but by mistake said ‘mosques and gurdwaras’.

His explanation made no difference and the BJP leaders in Punjab remained unconvinced.

The BJP’s Punjab unit chief Sunil Jakhar called out Dayma’s outbursts, while Amarinder Singh demanded strict action.

‘The outburst of Rajasthan leader against religious sentiments of fellow citizens cannot be condoned. I have apprised central leadership of hurt caused to people by his reprehensible statement,’ Jakhar was quoted as saying.

Jai Inder Kaur, the women's wing chief of the Punjab BJP, lodged a police complaint against Dayma.
