New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday alleged a “deliberate conspiracy” and “massive tampering” in this year’s CBSE Class 12 examination results, raising concerns over the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system and its implementation. He said students and parents across the country were anxious over the issue.

In a video statement and a post on X, Gandhi questioned the awarding of the CBSE contract to the company COEMPT and alleged that rules and procedures may have been bypassed. He demanded an independent judicial inquiry and an SIT probe into the matter.

According to him, COEMPT had earlier operated under the name ‘Globarena’ and was linked to controversies in Telangana in 2019. He claimed the company’s background was publicly known and alleged that both the CBSE and the Union Government were aware of it. He further questioned why adequate background checks were not conducted and asked about the firm’s alleged links with the government.

The controversy centres on CBSE’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) system introduced for Class 12 board examinations this year. The issue gained traction after students raised complaints about answer sheets and evaluation discrepancies. One student alleged that the answer sheet shown during verification did not belong to them, triggering wider concerns over the OSM process and handling of answer scripts.

In his video, Gandhi said students and parents were facing stress and anxiety due to the developments. Citing a complaint, he said a student claimed the handwriting in the answer sheet did not match theirs from the point where the questions began. He also said his team identified within “30 seconds” that COEMPT had previously operated under another name, questioning why CBSE had not flagged this earlier and alleging procedural lapses in awarding the contract.

Gandhi also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he had “nothing to say” on the issue, and urged students and parents to share his video and raise questions about the contract process, procedures followed, and the company’s background.
