Pro-Palestinian slogans during protest: 10 Aligarh uni students booked
text_fieldsAligarh: Ten students of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) have been booked for allegedly raising slogans in support of Palestine during protest marches over a fee hike and restoration of the AMU Students' Union, police said on Tuesday, reports PTI.
The protests, which continued for nearly three weeks, saw daily marches on the campus.
According to a complaint filed on Monday by Hindu Raksha Dal district president Sanjay Arya, video clips of the marches were widely circulated on social media.
Arya alleged that one video showed Talha Mannan and others carrying a Palestinian flag and raising pro-Palestine slogans, which he claimed threatened social peace and harmony in the city.
An FIR was registered in this regard on Monday at the Civil Lines police station under sections 223 (disobedience of order duly promulgated by a public servant) and 353(2) (statement conducing public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Mannan and nine unidentified students.
In other news, a retired professor of IIT Delhi, Professor VK Tripathi, allegedly got harassed by the Delhi Police after he observed a full day of fasting in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza on Independence Day.
In a viral video shared by the professor's daughter, a police officer could be seen arguing with the 77-year-old professor, Maktoob Media reported.
Sharing the video, his daughter wrote on X, “Heartbroken. My father, Prof. V.K. Tripathi, fasted all day at Rajghat for Gaza, handing out flyers. Around 6 pm, many police came shouting and speaking with hatred, as if we were there to cause trouble. I can’t believe this is our police. So much hate and prejudice.”
