Priest asks Dalit devotees to leave a temple in Karnataka's Tumakuru

Bengaluru: A priest in Karnataka's Tumakuru district ordered Dalit devotees out the temple as they came in for offering prayers.
A video emerged from the Mulakattamma Temple in the Gubbi taluk showed the young priest of the temple asking the devotees to get out, The Indian Express reported.
The devotees came in with coconuts and flowers to offer at the temple when they were rebuffed.
The Dalits however stood their ground asking the priest to perform prayers before they go.
This is among several cases of cast discrimination being widely reported in the state.
A Dalit man was roughed up by upper cast men earlier this month for offering prayers at Bangarpet of the Kolar district.
In another incident of untouchability, a Dalit family in the Ullerahalli village of Kolar had been penalized after their son touched a pole during a religious procession, according to The Indian Express.
