Presidential poll: Mamata Banerjee to hold opposition meet in Delhi
text_fieldsKolkata: Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal Chief Minister wrote to leaders of opposition on Saturday asking them to attend a meeting she convened in New Delhi on June 15 to work out a joint strategy for the upcoming presidential election.
"Our hon'ble chairperson @MamataOfficial calls upon all progressive opposition forces to meet and deliberate on the future course of action keeping the Presidential elections in sight, at the Constitution Club, New Delhi on June 15 2022 at 3 PM," Ms Banerjee's Trinamool Congress said.
According to a statement issued by her party, as the presidential election drawing near, Ms Banerjee has called upon opposition Chief Ministers and leaders to attend a joint meeting in the national capital.
"With the Presidential election around the corner, Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee, with an initiative of strong and effective opposition against the divisive forces, has reached out to the opposition Chief Ministers and leaders to participate in a joint meeting," the party statement said.
The Election Comm8ission on Thursday announced that the poll for the President of India is scheduled for July 18, adding that 4,809 members of the Electoral College, including MPs and MLAs, will elect a successor to the current President Ram Nath Kovind.
