Pradhan must resign; Wangchuk be made edu minister: Kejriwal
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal has extended support to the indefinite hunger strike being led by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Kejriwal visited Wangchuk at the protest site in Jantar Mantar on the 19th day of the fast and urged the Centre to address the demands of the movement. He also called for Pradhan's resignation and demanded that Wangchuk be appointed Union Education Minister instead.
Stepping up his attack on the Modi government, Kejriwal accused it of ignoring the concerns raised by Wangchuk and the protest movement. He warned that refusing to engage with the agitation could invite serious political consequences in the future and appealed to the Centre to respond to the demands without further delay.
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court expressed concern over Wangchuk's deteriorating health and directed the Central government to ensure his condition is monitored daily by a doctor. The court intervened while hearing a petition seeking urgent medical assistance for the fasting activist. The Centre assured the court that Wangchuk's health would be closely monitored in accordance with the court's directions.
Responding to repeated appeals to end his fast, Wangchuk said there was no need for concern over his health, asserting that his body remained capable of continuing the protest for several more days. He stated that his medical reports were satisfactory and indicated that he was not in immediate danger. The protest committee has decided to intensify the agitation in the coming days and has called on the public to participate in a march to Parliament scheduled for July 20.
