Political gains more important for Congress than interests of Hindus: BJP

After the Congress opposed the proposed anti-conversion law to be tabled in the upcoming winter session of the state assembly, BJP in Karnataka on Saturday launched a Twitter attack on the opposition party. The BJP took to social media and chided the Congress for sacrificing the larger interest of the community for political gains in a series of tweets.

"If anti-conversion law is enacted, one section of the society will be hurt. More than anything else, it may hurt your supreme leader (Sonia Gandhi). Political gains are important for you over the interests of Hindus," the post read.

"There is a competition within the Congress over opposing the anti-conversion law. Few days ago, it was opposition leader Siddaramaiah, and now it is the turn of Karnataka Congress President D.K. Shivakumar. You are the one who was ready to install monolithic Jesus statue illegally in Kanakapura to please high command. There is no surprise in your opposition," the BJP's official Twitter handle said. The saffron party further added that it cant expect anything more from the Congress leaders who celebrated Tipu Jayanti. The BJP alleges that Tipu, the warrior king from Mysuru, conducted mass conversions of Hindus to Islam.

The anti-conversion law is to be tabled in the winter session starting Monday (December 13) in Belagavi. The ruling party is determined to introduce it. The BJP is bringing the law to stop forceful religious conversions in the state, come what may, said KS Eshwarappa, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj.
