New Delhi: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Thursday termed PM Modi’s criticism of the Congress regarding its approach to judiciary as the ‘height of hypocrisy’, Scroll reported.

Reacting to PM Modi’s social media post where he accused the opposition party of bullying the judiciary, Ramesh alleged that PM Modi was “orchestrating and coordinating” an attack on the judiciary while claiming to be defending it, according to the report.

Unleashing a scathing attack on the Congress, Modi said ‘To browbeat and bully others is vintage Congress culture,’ adding the Congress had called for ‘ committed judiciary’ five decades ago, but the grand old party ‘shamelessly want commitment from others for their selfish interests but desist from any commitment towards the nation’.

Subsequently, a group of lawyers in a letter to Chief Justice DY Chandrachud alleged that ‘vested interest group’ was attempting to pressurize the judiciary pivoting on their ‘frivolous logic and stale political agendas’.

Ramesh, however, hit back at PM Modi saying, ‘The PM’s brazenness in orchestrating and coordinating an attack on the judiciary, in the name of defending the judiciary, is the height of hypocrisy!’

The Congress leader claimed that the apex court has ‘delivered body blows’ to PM Modi in recent weeks and cited what he said the ‘ The Electoral Bond Scheme' as one example.

‘ The Supreme Court declared them to be unconstitutional – and it is now proved beyond doubt that they were a blatant instrument of fear, blackmail, and intimidation to force companies to donate to the BJP,’ the Congress leader was quoted as stating.

The Rajya Sabha MP said that PM Modi used the last ten year in power to ‘divide, distort, divert, and defame’, and asserted that India’s ‘140 crore Indians are waiting to give him a befitting reply very soon.’
