New Delhi: Marking the 77th Independence Day of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a speech at the iconic Red Fort in Delhi, addressing the nation and emphasising the significance of unity and respecting regional aspirations. Greeting the 140 crore citizens as family members, he said the country is with Manipur.

The speech notably began with a reference to the strife-torn state of Manipur, a topic that has garnered significant attention and discussions. Addressing the recent wave of violence and unrest in the northeastern state, PM Modi expressed empathy, saying, "In the last few weeks, Manipur witnessed a wave of violence. Several people lost their lives, and our mothers and sisters were dishonoured. But, peace is slowly returning to the region. India stands with Manipur," reported NDTV.

He underlined the collaborative efforts of both the central and state governments in restoring peace to Manipur, emphasising that the people of the state should capitalise on the newfound stability. Stressing the importance of peace in finding solutions, he stated, "The people of Manipur should build on the peace that has been restored over the past few days. The path for a solution will be found through peace in Manipur."

The significance of regional aspirations was another key theme woven into PM Modi's speech. He highlighted the interconnectedness of all Indian states, noting that when there is strife in one region, the impact is felt across the country. "When I talk about unity...if there's violence in Manipur, the pain is felt in Maharashtra as well," he affirmed.

PM Modi commenced his 10th consecutive Independence Day speech by extending greetings to the diverse Indian population and acknowledging their collective identity. He paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi's Satyagraha movement and remembered the sacrifices of prominent freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev, whose unwavering commitment paved the way for India's independence.

The speech also included reflections on the sacrifices made by individuals and movements that led to India's freedom. The prime minister's reference to Manipur resonated throughout the speech, further emphasising the need to ensure overall development while addressing specific regional concerns.

PM Modi's address underscored the value of unity, inclusivity, and collective progress as India marches forward in its journey towards development and prosperity. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including cabinet ministers, political leaders, and service chiefs, making it a momentous occasion reflecting the shared aspirations of the nation.
