Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi, in response to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' controversial comment calling the Muslim community indirectly the sons of Aurangzeb, asked him about the children of Nathuram Godse and Vaman Shivram Apte.

In the aftermath of violent clashes during a protest in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, political tensions have intensified following controversial remarks made by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The protest was initially organized against alleged objectionable social media posts regarding historical figures Aurangzeb and Tipu Sultan, which eventually spiralled into violence.

During his address, Fadnavis stated, "Suddenly, in some districts of Maharashtra, sons of Aurangzeb took birth. They keep the status of Aurangzeb and show their posters. Because of this, there are tensions. Questions arise, where do these sons of Aurangzeb come from? Who are behind this? We will find this out."

In response to Fadnavis' remarks, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi, without directly quoting him, retaliated by raising questions about the offspring of Nathuram Godse and Vaman Shivram Apte. Owaisi questioned Fadnavis, saying, "Do you know everything? I didn't know you were such an expert. Then you should know who the children of Godse and Apte are."

Owaisi's response adds fuel to the political fire, diverting attention to the controversial figures involved in the historical context. Nathuram Godse was convicted for the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, while Vaman Shivram Apte was one of the co-conspirators in the case.

The Kolhapur incident has prompted authorities to impose a curfew following a violent clash between two groups. To regain control, the police resorted to lathi charges to disperse the crowd.

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Sharad Pawar, however, expressed his disapproval of the politicization of the Kolhapur incident. Pawar emphasized the negative consequences such situations have on society, asserting that there should be no room for politics in this matter. He called for a thorough investigation to uncover the truth and bring justice to all parties involved.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde underlined the government's responsibility in maintaining law and order throughout the state. He appealed to the public for peace and calm, assuring them that a comprehensive police investigation is underway, and appropriate action will be taken against those found guilty.

As the controversy surrounding Fadnavis' remarks and Owaisi's response deepens, the incident in Kolhapur serves as a reminder of the need for responsible and respectful dialogue when discussing sensitive historical figures. Authorities remain committed to restoring peace and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens in Maharashtra.
