Over 31,000 Waqf registrations on Umeed portal cancelled in Uttar Pradesh
text_fieldsLucknow: Authorities in Uttar Pradesh have cancelled registrations of 31,328 properties listed as Waqf on the Centre’s Umeed portal after a large scale verification found widespread discrepancies in the submitted records.
Officials said 31,192 of those Waqf claims were rejected following scrutiny of documents, which revealed mismatches between the details uploaded on the portal and land and revenue records. Common problems included incorrect Khasra or plot numbers and inconsistencies in the land area noted in revenue documents.
The cancellations form part of an ongoing review of Waqf assets in the state, where a total of 1,18,302 properties have been documented for verification. Authorities said the action followed cross checks that exposed irregularities and technical inconsistencies in many registrations.
The Umeed portal (Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development) was launched by the Centre to digitise and geotag Waqf properties and create a centralised inventory to improve transparency. Under the rules, Waqf properties were required to be uploaded within six months of the portal’s launch.
The development comes amid legal and political debate over the amended Waqf law and the mandatory registration process. The Supreme Court recently declined to extend the six month deadline for uploads, noting that parties facing technical problems could seek relief from Waqf Tribunals.
Officials warned that further verifications are under way and that additional registrations could be annulled. Disputed claims found during the exercise are expected to be referred to Waqf Tribunals for adjudication.
