Oppn walks out of Rajya Sabha after Kharge barred from speaking
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Opposition members of the Rajya Sabha staged a walkout on Monday, protesting against Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, not being allowed to speak.
During Question Hour, Congress member Kharge sought to raise the issue that Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, was not permitted to speak on the Motion of Thanks. However, Chairman C P Radhakrishnan did not allow him to raise the matter, stating that “nothing that he says will go on record.”
Earlier, Kharge had sought to highlight the statement made by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal last week on the India-US trade deal, outside the House while Parliament was in session.
As the Chairman did not allow him to speak, opposition members stood in protest. Despite the Chairman proceeding with Question Hour, the members continued their protest on the floor and eventually staged a walkout from the House.
