Chennai: Tamil Nadu RN Ravi, who is already embroiled in the controversy of sitting idle over the state-passed bills, was caught in a fresh row after he asked students to chant “Jai Shri Ram”. Protests arose from multiple quarters as leaders of the MK Stalin government and some academic bodies condemned Ravi’s act while one academic body demanded his removal from as governor of Tamil Nadu, NDTV reported.

The academic body, non-profit SPCSS-TN (State Platform for Common School System - Tamil Nadu), said in a statement that Mr RN Ravi had violated his oath of office. He failed to abide by the Constitution and respect its ideals and institutions. Mr RN Ravi should be removed from the Office of Governor of Tamil Nadu forthwith for deliberately violating Article 159 of the Constitution of India".

Senior Congress leader Sasikanth Senthil, in a post on X, mocked the Governor.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Sasikanth Senthil said on X that Rave is now resorting to stunts like making students chant 'Jai Shri Ram' after being slammed by the Supreme Court and blocked by the State Government, just to irritate the system.

He added that Ravi is frustrated and wanted to send the message that even if the courts rule against him, he will find other ways to push his agenda.

Senthil also said that It's a dangerous mix of arrogance and defiance that undermines democratic institutions and the principles of the Constitution.

The Supreme Court ruled earlier this week that Governor RN Ravi’s decision to withhold assent to 10 key Bills was "illegal" and "arbitrary", noting that the Governor had not acted in “good faith”. The court also pronounced a landmark judgement, setting aside the decisions of the Governor and said the bills should be "deemed to be cleared" from the date they were presented to the Governor for a second time.
