Hyderabad: After making a statement that her father used to sexually abuse her as a child, actor turned politician Kushbhu Sundar said that she is not ashamed about making the revelation, Asian News International reported.

The BJP leader and the National Commission for Women member, Khushbu, revealed recently that she was subjected to sexual abuse by her father when she was eight. It continued till her 15th year of age when she started protesting. She said that after her revolt, her father left her and her family in the lurch.

She told ANI that she had not made some startling statement but an honesty she had come out with. She was not ashamed of what she had said since it happened to her, and the perpetrator must feel ashamed of his deeds, she said.

She said through her revelation she wanted to urge women to speak up, narrating what happened to them. She wanted to send the message that one has to be strong and must take control of oneself, not letting anything bring one down or must not think an instant is the end of the road.

ANI quoted her, “If I have taken so many years to speak about it, I think women need to speak about it and tell them this has happened to me, and I will continue my journey, no matter what.”

Khushbu joined politics in 2010 after a celebrated stint in cinema. She joined DMK first, then joined congress four years later. In 2020, she joined BJP and was recently nominated as a member of the National Commission for Women.
