Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the significant strides made in transforming the Northeast region during the past decade of BJP governance at the Centre, stating that it has evolved from being perceived as an "abandoned region" to becoming an "abundant region."

In an interview with The Assam Tribune, he highlighted the commitment to bringing peace and stability to the region through various initiatives.

PM Modi underscored the progress achieved in Manipur, attributing it to the concerted efforts of the Centre and the state government. He also expressed determination to conclude peace talks with Naga groups promptly, with 11 peace agreements signed over the past decade as a notable milestone.

"We have ended Northeast's isolation and developed it as Bharat's gateway to the East," PM Modi affirmed, reflecting on the government's policy shift towards integration and development in the region. He emphasized the strategic importance of the Northeast and outlined the vision to bolster economic ties while addressing the aspirations of the people.

Regarding the situation in Manipur, PM Modi emphasized the collective responsibility in dealing with sensitive issues. He highlighted the government's interventions and Amit Shah's visit to Manipur during a critical period, emphasizing ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.

PM Modi hailed the significant reduction in insurgency-related incidents and casualties, citing the withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from most parts of the Northeast. He reaffirmed India's stance on Arunachal Pradesh's integral status and outlined substantial development projects for the region.

On the framework agreement with NSCN(IM), PM Modi assured efforts towards a peaceful resolution. Regarding infiltration from Myanmar into Mizoram, he stressed bilateral engagement and measures to secure borders, including scrapping the Free Movement Regime and enhanced border surveillance.

"We want to see peace and stability return to Myanmar at the earliest," PM Modi stated, emphasizing policy adjustments to address evolving challenges and facilitate the peaceful repatriation of displaced individuals.
