No trace of Congress will remain after elections - Amarinder Singh

In the Assembly elections, the Congress will be wiped out in Punjab, according to former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

As Amarinder Singh told reporters after he left the Congress party to form the Punjab Lok Congress, "I am confident of winning Patiala. I think we'll win...They (Congress) live in a different world and will lose in Punjab."

Punjab Lok Congress founder Bhagwant Mann said after voting in Patiala that Bhagwant Mann supports Arvind Kejriwal, who is anti-national.

The former chief minister also said that his party is doing well on the ground and positive reports came in from there.

This time, it's a multi-cornered party contest with the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Shiromani Akali Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party alliance, and the coalition of former Punjab CM Amarinder Singh's Punjab Lok Congress party.

Navjot Singh Sidhu from Punjab faces Bikram Singh Majithia of SAD in Chamkaur Sahib and Bhadaur. Charanjit Singh Channi, the Congress's chief ministerial candidate, is also running from two seats.

In Punjab, Amarinder Singh, the party's leader in the legislature, is seeking reelection from the Patiala seat. Bhagwant Mann, the AAP's CM candidate, is running for the Dhuri seat.

Five-time Chief Minister and senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Parkash Singh Badal is in the fray from the Lambi seat while SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal is in the electoral contest from Jalalabad. The BJP has pitted its Punjab unit chief Ashwani Kumar Sharma from the Pathankot constituency.

Voting for all the 117 seats are underway and the results will be announced on March 10.
