No competition with BJP, we're way ahead: Kejriwal on Gujarat polls

Surat: Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Monday exuded confidence in wresting power from the BJP in Gujarat bagging 92 seats.

After writing his prediction on a piece of paper and then showing it to the media he claimed that AAP would get seven to eight seats in Surat.

Surat with 12 seats to the state's 182-member Assembly will go to vote on December 1.

Also known as "diamond City", Surat has traditionally been sending BJP MLAs to the assembly, thanks to the support it garnered from textile and diamond merchants, according to NDTV.

The AAP candidates Kejriwal predicted to win with a big margin include Gopal Italia, the party's Gujarat chief; Chief Ministerial candidate Isudan Gadhvi; and former Patidar quota leader Alpesh Kathiriya, according to the report.

Earlier participating an NDTV event, Kejriwal jotted down on a paper that Congress would get fewer than five seats.

AAP has long been campaigning for Gujarat after its windfall success in Punjab, making significant presence in the state largely dominated by the BJP.

Kejriwal made a slew of promises to the state that include freeing traders from the "atmosphere of fear and intimidation".

AAP leader promised upgrading the quality of medical treatment and doing away with unemployment, as well as promising to stop private schools from increasing fees.

One of the most notable promises include a ₹ 3,000 allowance for the unemployed till they get a job.

When asked about the huge presence of the BJP in the state, Kejriwal said AAP was way ahead of the BJP.
