Congress chief Sidhu terms Capt. Amarinder Singh as 'spent cartridge', 'traitor'

In a series of scathing tweets directed at the former Chief Minister of Punjab, Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu has alleged that Captain Amarinder Singh was a 'traitor' and a 'spent cartridge' who worked with the 'BJP and Badals' to compromise the interests of Punjab for his own gains.

"You wanted to close doors on me, as i was raising voice of the People, speaking truth to power ! Last time you formed your own party, you lost your ballot, garnering only 856 votes … People of Punjab are again waiting to punish you for compromising on the interests of Punjab," Sidhu tweeted during the address of Captain Singh at a press conference. Earlier today Captain Singh had announced the formation of his own political party to compete in the Punjab polls, which Sidhu ridiculed.

In his lashing out, Sidhu said Captain Singh would be remembered as a 'Jaichand' or traitor and an "arm-twisted, ED controlled BJP loyal Chief Minister of Punjab … who sold the interests of Punjab to save his skin... You were the negative force stalling Justice & development of Punjab."

Sidhu asked if he (Capt Amarinder Singh) was unceremoniously dumped for good governance and the 18-point agenda was handed "to the poorest performing CM of Punjab".

The two have been engaged in a war of words for some period of time with Amarinder Singh having resigned from his CM post after opposition from Sidhu and a cadre of ministers. Sidhu had also resigned from the cabinet in 2019 after a tussle with Singh but rejoined soon after. In response, Singh has only said that Punjab needed to work with the Center to further its development but that he did not expect Sidhu to know about 'good governence' anyway. He expressed hopes of reaching a seat arrangement with the BJP.
