‘Narcotics is a dirty business’; Vijay to join Mohanlal in Op Toofan
text_fieldsKochi: Kerala's flagship anti-drug campaign, Operation Toofan: The Narco Hunt, is set for a major boost with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay expected to join actor Mohanlal at a special event in Kochi. Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala announced the development after meeting Vijay in Chennai, stating that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has extended his full support to the state's campaign against narcotics. Although the government has not officially announced the event date, Vijay's participation is expected to be confirmed soon.
Vijay was unable to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan despite receiving an invitation. However, his reported commitment to socially relevant causes has raised expectations that he will attend the Kochi programme.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has been actively involved in anti-drug awareness initiatives, encouraging young people to reject substance abuse and embrace sports. His participation in the "Start Run, Stop Drugs" marathon held at Chennai's Marina Beach on the International Day Against Drug Abuse drew widespread attention and reinforced his campaign promoting fitness over addiction.
Mohanlal has been associated with Operation Toofan since its launch. The campaign prominently features his iconic anti-drug dialogue from the film Irupatham Noottandu, later reprised in Lucifer, making it one of its defining messages.
The proposed appearance of Mohanlal and Vijay together has also generated excitement in the film industry, as the two stars had earlier shared screen space in the film Jilla. Mohanlal had also personally congratulated Vijay after he assumed office as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
