Kashmir: Tweeting about her being under house arrest, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said the administration's claim of normalcy in the Valley has been exposed. She tweeted that the administration is making fake claims of normalcy in Kashmir.

"The Government of India expresses concern for the rights of Afghan people but willfully denies the same to Kashmiris. I've been placed under house arrest today because according to the administration the situation is far from normal in Kashmir. This exposes their fake claims of normalcy," Mufti's tweet read.

Mufti posted it along with an image of the gate of her house which is locked, and a truck parked nearby it. But the police denied Mufti's claim of being under house arrest, saying since she is a Z+ category protectee, the deployment of the forces is only for security. The police said she was also advised not to visit Kulgam today.

She was responding to the Jammu and Kashmir police claim of easing most of the restrictions and restoring internet services that were imposed following the death of the separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

Syed Ali Shah Geelani, 91, died on Wednesday and was buried hours later near his home in Srinagar amid heavy security to forestall any protests and gatherings at mosques.

Security personnel were positioned in sensitive areas and several roads were barricaded.
