Hyderabad: A shocking incident has come to light as a 36-year-old priest from a temple in Saroor Nagar, Hyderabad, has been apprehended for the alleged murder of a 30-year-old woman, identified as Apsara. The accused, Venkata Surya Sai Krishna, reportedly confessed to the crime, which occurred on Sunday, June 4.

According to police officials, Krishna and Apsara had been involved in a relationship for over a year, and Apsara had to undergo an abortion in March 2023 after she became pregnant a few months ago. However, Krishna, who was already married, refused to marry her, leading to escalating conflicts between the two.

It is alleged that Krishna lured Apsara into accompanying him on a drive, ostensibly to resolve their differences. However, during the drive, he viciously attacked her with an iron rod in the Sultanpalle area of Shamshabad, resulting in her death.

After committing the murder, Krishna concealed Apsara's lifeless body in the trunk of his car. He then disposed of the body by dumping it in a manhole near the Mandal Revenue Office (MRO) in Saroornagar, camouflaging it with two truckloads of sand.

In an attempt to divert suspicion, the accused subsequently filed a missing person's complaint with the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) police station on June 5, claiming that his "niece" had gone missing after he dropped her off at Shamshabad bus stand for a supposed tour.

Initially, investigators faced challenges in locating any evidence from CCTV footage. However, their efforts led them to review cameras in the Saroornagar area, where they discovered footage of Krishna disposing of the body in the manhole. The police detained Krishna for questioning, and during the interrogation, he admitted to the murder of Apsara.

The authorities are presently in the process of recovering the victim's remains from the manhole, which have been positively identified by her mother. A missing person's complaint has been formally lodged, and the case is now under investigation by the RGIA police station.
