Manickam Tagore appointed Tamil Nadu Congress president
text_fieldsThe Congress on Saturday appointed Lok Sabha MP Manickam Tagore as the new president of the Tamil Nadu Pradesh Congress Committee (TNPCC), replacing K. Selvaperunthagai.
Announcing the decision, AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal said Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had approved Tagore's appointment with immediate effect.
"The party appreciates the contributions of outgoing PCC president K. Selvaperunthagai," Venugopal said in a statement.
Tagore represents the Virudhunagar Lok Sabha constituency and currently serves as the All India Congress Committee's in-charge for Andhra Pradesh and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He is also the Congress whip in the Lok Sabha.
The leadership change comes as the Congress remains an alliance partner of the ruling TVK government in Tamil Nadu, led by actor-politician Vijay Joseph.
