Mahua Moitra takes dig on BJP; mentions Irani's daughter's illegal bar
text_fieldsNew Delhi: New Delhi: Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra called BJP called BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla a 'hired help' of the party and took a jibe at Union minister Smirti Irani over the controversy of her daughter's alleged bar in Goa. Moitra's statement comes after Ponawalla's allegation that Congress MPs protesting under Parliament's Gandhi statue ate 'Tandoori Chicken, NDTV reported.
She tweeted that BJP's hired help was commenting on food consumed by suspended MPs on Dharna. "Silly Souls! Don't you know your masters serve both tongue & cheek ?!" NDTV quotes Moitra's tweet.
Apparently, the establishment Smirti Irani's daughter owns in Goa is named "Silly Souls", which is an illegal bar, according to Congress.
Earlier, Opposition leaders, along with social media users, attacked Irani for BJP's 'hypocrisy' after a video showed her daughter's restaurant serving delicacies based on various meat.
In addition to his tandoori chicken allegation, saying that his claim was based on media reports, Poonawalla said that Gandhiji's views on animal slaughter are well known. He claimed that many have asked whether it was a protest or a farce and a picnic.
Meanwhile, TMC leader Sushmita Dev slapped back that BJP was scared of the Opposition's solidarity.
Dev told reporters that behind closed doors, leaders of RSS eat everything. "So, don't make a comment on our food. They can't tolerate that the food is being brought not from our home but by other MPs. They are scared of this solidarity," NDTV quoted Dev. Another Opposition leader stated that Poonawalla's statement reveals the party's intolerance.
He said that when some have roti for lunch, he has fish curry and rice or chicken and asked what is wrong with it. He asserted that he had the right to eat what he wanted.
NDTV reports that the Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs also tweeted that Congress insulted Mahatma Gandhi. He claimed that there was news that said Congress leaders ate chicken under Gandhi's statue in the name of dharna. Instead of discussing issues, insulting the country's great personalities became a habit for the Congress, his tweet in Hindi alleged.
After the suspension of Opposition MPs, protests against it started on Wednesday near the Gandhi statue.
PTI quoted a leader, "We want to remind Modi of the promise he made when he arrived on the first day. That is the place where he touched his forehead on the stairs."
"Also, since there was no tent, because of the rain, we had to move the agitation somewhere. This place was symbolic."
