Mahua Moitra moves notice to begin proceedings against Minister Kiren Rijiju
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Mahua Moitra, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP, moved a notice in the Lok Sabha on Monday to commence privilege proceedings against Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju for a statement he made against the MP in the House on Friday, December 13, according to The Indian Express.
The notice was reportedly sent after Rijiju made a "threatening" statement against Moitra in Parliament as she was participating in a debate on 75 years of the Indian Constitution.
Minister Rijiju had threatened Moitra with legal action over her reference to the death of Judge B H Loya, a case that had already been decided by the Supreme Court.
According to The Indian Express, opposition lawmakers were upset by Rijiju's "personal comments" against Moitra.
Opposition MPs who signed the notice were also upset over the minister's remarks "about the character of a member of the House". The notice was signed by leaders from the Congress, the DMK, and the Samajwadi Party.
