New Delhi: Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh, a decorated officer with more than 35 years of service, will assume charge as the next Vice Chief of the Army Staff on 1 August. He will succeed Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani, who took over the post in July last year.

An alumnus of the Indian Military Academy, Lt Gen Singh was commissioned into the 4 Para (Special Forces) in December 1987. Over his career, he has served in several key operations, including Operation Pawan, Operation Meghdoot, Operation Rakshak and Operation Orchid. He has also been part of United Nations peacekeeping missions in Lebanon and Sri Lanka.

In April 2022, he became the General Officer Commanding of the Rising Star Corps, which was raised in 2005 and is based in Yol cantonment in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra Valley.

Meanwhile, Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, will become the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command. Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan will take over as the new Vice Chief of the Naval Staff on 1 August, a senior official said.
