Key contests in Madhya Pradesh Assembly Election as voting starts
text_fieldsBhopal: As Madhya Pradesh enters its Assembly election, significant constituencies and candidates dominate the crucial battle between the Congress and the BJP.
Top leaders from both parties, such as Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and State Congress Chief Kamal Nath, are actively participating in this electoral contest shaping the state's political landscape.
Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra is contesting from Datia against Congress' Avdhesh Nayak, a former RSS functionary. Mishra, a two-time BJP MLA, previously secured victory in the 2018 assembly elections, defeating Congress' Bharti Rajendra with a notable margin of 72,209 votes.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, fielded from the Budhni assembly constituency, faces Congress' Vikram Mastal, a 40-year-old actor known for his role as 'Hanuman' in the 2008 TV serial 'Ramayan 2'. Meanwhile, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath contests from Chhindwara against the BJP's Vivek Bunty Sahu, a former Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha president, reported ANI.
Jaivardhan Singh, son of former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh, is contesting from the Raghogarh constituency, traditionally a stronghold of their family. However, Jyotiraditya Scindia's induction into the BJP has complicated the contest, as Hirendra Singh alias Bunty Banna, has been fielded against Jaivardhan Singh by the BJP.
Union Minister Prahlad Singh Patel has been fielded from Narsingpur, replacing his brother, Jalam Singh Patel, who won twice from the same seat. Congress' Lakhan Singh Patel, who previously contested and lost to Jalam Singh Patel in the 2018 assembly elections, is challenging Prahlad Singh Patel in Narsingpur.
Another significant battle is in Indore-1, where BJP National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya contests against Congress' Sanjay Shukla, aiming to retain the traditionally BJP-dominated constituency. Additionally, the Lahar assembly constituency witnesses a contest between BJP's Ambrish Sharma and Congress' Govind Singh, who has a record of seven consecutive wins from this Congress bastion.
The outcome of these key battles in Madhya Pradesh will significantly influence the state's political trajectory.
Voting is currently underway, and the counting of votes is scheduled for December 3.
