Kejriwal accuses Centre of 'ruining' Delhi following Shahdara shooting
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday criticised Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing him of worsening the law and order situation in Delhi. Kejriwal’s comments followed a tragic shooting incident in Shahdara, where 52-year-old businessman Sunil Jain was fatally shot by two assailants on a bike as he returned home from a morning walk.
Taking to X, Kejriwal stated, "Amit Shah ji has ruined Delhi. He has turned Delhi into a jungle raj. People are living a life of terror everywhere. BJP is no longer able to handle the law and order situation in Delhi. The people of Delhi will have to unite and raise their voices."
Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj also condemned the shooting, referring to Delhi as a "crime capital." The incident occurred when Sunil Jain, a utensil trader, was riding his scooter home after a morning walk at the Yamuna Sports Complex. Police confirmed that a PCR call was received at 8:36 A.M., reporting that 7-8 bullets were fired at Jain before the attackers fled the scene.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage to identify the suspects and believe the attack may have been premeditated due to its violent nature.
The shooting has heightened concerns over public safety in the city, especially amid a surge in violent crimes. In another recent incident, a man named Sudheer was killed and two others were injured during a dispute over the cleanliness of a shared toilet in Govindpuri. Sudheer succumbed to his injuries, while his brother Prem and friend Sagar are being treated at AIIMS.
These daylight killings and an increase in gang-related violence, including a shooting by the Bambiha Gang in Rani Bagh, have raised questions about the efficacy of law enforcement under the Union Home Ministry's oversight.
