Mathura: India’s first national cow culture museum will be set up in Mathura on the campus of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Veterinary Science University, following an initiative by the Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad, an official said on Saturday, adding that land for the project has already been identified.

Agra Divisional Commissioner Nagendra Pratap said the museum will showcase the religious, cultural and spiritual importance of cattle, alongside the scientific utility of cows and their products. Describing it as a unique confluence of tradition and science, he said the project aims to promote a holistic understanding of cow conservation among the public.

On Saturday, Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad Vice-President Shailajakant Mishra, Divisional Commissioner Nagendra Pratap, District Magistrate C P Singh, Mathura-Vrindavan Development Authority Vice-President Lakshmi N, Parishad Chief Executive Officer Suraj Patel, Environmental Adviser Mukesh Sharma, and Dr Amit Shukla of the veterinary university inspected the proposed site and reviewed the project blueprint.

According to the Divisional Commissioner, the museum will feature around 100 digital and symbolic models of cattle, including all major indigenous breeds and endangered species, to offer future generations a comprehensive insight into India’s rich bovine heritage.

A key attraction will be a dedicated exhibition on cow milk and its by-products such as milk, curd, cheese and ghee. Using modern display techniques, the exhibition will highlight the scientific, nutritional and Ayurvedic benefits of these products. A dairy parlour will also be developed within the premises to provide visitors with pure dairy products.

The project recognises the cow as a “mother” in Indian culture and underscores its spiritual significance in the Sanatan tradition. Officials said the museum will demonstrate that cow conservation extends beyond economic or agricultural considerations and is closely linked to religious practices, virtuous living and public welfare.

Being developed at the national level under the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the museum is expected to enhance the identity of the Braj region and serve as a milestone in promoting a scientifically structured cow-based economy.
