New Delhi: According to sources, a human error must be the reason for the accidental firing of an Indian missile and its illicit landing 124 km into Pakistan, PTI reported.

The court involved in the inquiry of the two-week-old incident is reportedly probing the role of a Group Captain and a few officers for their alleged lapses.

There is no official comment on the matter yet. The incident had taken place on March 9, following which Pakistan had lodged a strong protest with India the next day.

There has been no official comment had made yet on the matter, which had taken place on March 9. Pakistan had voiced their strong protest against India the very next day.

On March 11, the Indian Ministry for Defence had informed that the missile was fired accidentally and has landed in Pakistan. It had stated that the incident was "deeply regrettable", and it was happened due to a technical malfunction during the routine maintenance of the missile.

The government has taken a serious view into the matter and has ordered a high-level investigation. Further, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh informed the Parliament on March 15 that the standard operating procedures for operations, maintenance, and inspection of such systems were being reviewed.

After the missile incident, Pakistan had summoned India's Charge d'Affaires in Islamabad and expressed its harsh protest on the unprovoked breach of Pakistan's airspace and land space. According to Pakistan, the Indian supersonic flying object entered the country from Suratgarh in India and fell near Mian Channu city in Pakistan, damaging civilian property.
