Indian democracy's success hurts some; so they attack: PM Modi
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The success of Indian democracy and its institutions are hurting some people, and that is why they are attacking both, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, aiming a kick at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his UK remarks, PTI reported.
Speaking at the India Today conclave, he said that India is full of confidence and resolve, with intellectuals of the world being optimistic about the country. But talks of pessimism, showing the country in a bad light and hurting its morale, is also happening, he said.
“When something auspicious is happening, there is a tradition to apply ‘kaala tika’, so when so many auspicious things are happening, some people have taken the responsibility to apply this ‘kaala tika’,” he said without naming anyone.
The PM’s fresh statements came when the political storm went on over Rahul’s remarks during his visit to the UK, on which BJP alleged that the Congress leader was maligning India on foreign soil.
Modi said, “The success of India’s democracy and its institutions is hurting some people, and that is why they are attacking it,” and added that he is confident that the country will successfully meet its objectives.
Further, he said that scams used to make headlines but the “corrupt” coming together against the action against them is what is making news now.
Modi then claimed that the world now stays and that this is India’s moment, and this became possible because of the change of promise and performance in the country.
He also claimed that when all governments worked on their abilities and got respective results, his government wanted new results and worked at different paces and scales.
“Today India is the fastest growing economy in the world, it is the number one in smartphone data consumers, it is the second biggest mobile manufacturer and has the third biggest startup ecosystem,” he claimed.
