New Delhi:Indian professional boxer Mandeep Jangra has secured the World Boxing Federation's super featherweight world title, defeating Britain's Conor McIntosh in a bout held in the Cayman Islands.

Jangra, aged 31, who trains under former Olympic silver medalist Roy Jones Jr., showcased dominance throughout the match, having faced only one defeat in his professional career to date. He delivered powerful punches from the start and maintained his stamina across all ten rounds, while McIntosh struggled to keep pace.

Despite attempts from the British boxer to stage a comeback, Jangra maintained control, leading in most rounds. “This is one of the biggest victories of my career. I am thankful to my sponsor Nash Built Construction, Chief Coach Roy Jones, Assistant Coach Asa Beard, and Angel,” Jangra stated in a media release. “I have worked hard for years to achieve this. It is a matter of pride for me that I could bring glory to the country.”

Since making his professional debut in 2021, Jangra hopes that his title will inspire more Indian boxers to pursue professional careers. “I think this title will open the way for other boxers in the country and they will also consider making a career in professional boxing. Our boxers are talented, and with good promoters and managers, they can also become world champions,” he added.

With an impressive record of 11 wins out of 12 fights, including seven by knockout, Jangra has also made his mark in the amateur circuit, winning a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
