India will advocate for reforms to strengthen the global trading system at the upcoming Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization, scheduled to be held in Yaoundé from March 24 to 29.

The Indian delegation will be led by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, along with Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal.

Key issues on the agenda include the future of the e-commerce moratorium and India’s stance on the proposed Investment Facilitation for Development Agreement, which has emerged as a contentious multilateral initiative. Discussions are also expected on agriculture and the proposed fisheries subsidies agreement, both seen as critical for developing countries.

India is also set to participate in the G33, which typically coordinates positions on agriculture and food security among developing nations.

Sources indicated that broader global trade tensions, including tariff measures by the United States, may be raised during the conference as member countries voice concerns over protectionist policies.

India’s position remains that the WTO must be strengthened to ensure a fair and rules-based global trading system.
