India witnesses lowest number of Covid cases since March 2022

New Delhi: The number of new coronavirus infections in India on Monday was 89, the fewest since March 27, 2020. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued data showing a decrease in active cases to 2,035.
The total number of victims in the Covid case was 4.46 crore (4.46,81,233), and there were 5,30,726 fatalities. The active Covid-19 caseload decreased by 84 patients throughout the course of the last 24 hours.
At 4,41,48,472, the total number of patients who have recovered from the illness has increased, while the case fatality rate has been recorded at 1.19 per cent.
On Monday, Delhi saw no more instances of COVID-19 for the first time since March 2020. The state health agency has given statistics showing that there are just 10 active cases. On Monday, there were no fatalities associated with Covid. Only one infection-related fatality has been reported in Delhi so far this month (on January 9).
According to information provided by the state health department, up to 931 tests were performed in the capital the day before. On Sunday, the city only recorded one new case with a 0.05 per cent positive rate, Indian Express reported.
In the meantime, a suo motu lawsuit concerning the spread of Covid-19 in jails throughout India will be heard by the Supreme Court of India today.
According to official sources, the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) on Tuesday approved the Covid-19 vaccine Covovax as a heterologous booster dosage for adults who have had two doses of Covishield or Covaxin. Following recommendations from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO)'s Subject Expert, the DCGI was approved.
“Prakash Kumar Singh, Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs at the Serum Institute of India (SII), had recently written to the DCGI for the approval of Covovax heterologous booster dose for those aged 18 years and above in view of the escalating Covid-19 pandemic situation in some countries,” an official source told PTI.
