In India, no one will go to bed empty-handed if the economy hits $30 trillion 2050: Gautam Adani

Mumbai: Business magnate, Gautam Adani, whose group operates everything from airports to ports to power generation, has said that if India can reach a $30-trillion economy by 2050, no one will have to go to bed hungry.

"We are around 10,000 days away from year 2050. Over this period, I anticipate we'll add about $25 trillion to our economy. This translates to an addition of $2.5 billion to the GDP every day. I also anticipate that over this period, we'll have eradicated all forms of poverty," Adani told the India Economic Conclave organised by Times Network here on Thursday.

As we approach the end of the decade, Adani, who has added $49 billion in additional wealth since 2021 - more than two of the world's richest people, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos combined - expressed optimism that we, as a nation, are capable of implementing these projects within 10,000 days.

During the 10,000 days, he said, the stock market could increase its value by about $40 trillion, which translates to $4 billion every day until the year 2050 if the economy grows as planned.

Adani concluded that improving the lives of 1.4 billion may feel like a marathon in the short term, but it is a sprint over the long term.

As the World Bank reported in its latest report on poverty in India, the country experienced a huge decline in extreme poverty between 2011 and 2019-from 22.5 per cent in 2011 to 10.2 per cent in 2019.
