Guwahati: The IIT-Guwahati student who went missing after declaring allegiance to terror outfit ISIS has been detained in Assam's Hajo on Saturday, NDTV reported citing police.

The fourth-year Biotechnology student, after expressing on social media and emails his intention to join the terror outfit, went missing from Guwahati campus recently.

The incident follows the arrest of Haris Farooqi, the ISIS India head, in Dhubri district after he sneaked in from Bangladesh.

A lookout notice was issued for the IIT-student, hailing from Delhi, after he published a letter on Linkedin, stating his plans.

He was picked up from Hajo around 30 km from Guwahati in Kamrup district, according to the report.

Director-General of Police GP Singh posted on X that the IIT Guwahati student , who pledged allegiance to ISIS ‘has been detained while travelling and further lawful follow up would take place.’

Regarding the student’s email in which he claimed he was on the way to join ISIS, Additional Superintendent of Police (STF) Kalyan Kumar Pathak said, ‘After receiving an email, we verified the authenticity of the contents and started an investigation.’

A black flag resembling the ISIS flag and an Islamic manuscript were recovered from the student’s hostels room where he was taken after arrest, NDTV reported citing sources in Special Task Force.

It is reported based on inputs from police that the student was a loner on the campus.

Haris Farooqi, suspected to be hiding in Bangladesh carrying out radicalization of Indians, was arrested along with his associates by Assam police on Wednesday.

Farooqui, hailing from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, was wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
