Human rights body probes cane charge on BJP workers, death of one worker in Bihar

Patna: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has initiated an investigation into the police cane charge on the BJP workers and the death of one activist who was protesting against the Bihar administration's decision regarding the posting of teachers in the state.

The NHRC's intervention comes following a complaint lodged by Samrat Choudhary, the BJP chief in Bihar. The human rights body has requested an action report from the Chief Secretary of the Bihar government within a four-week timeframe, warning of "coercive steps" if no response is provided.

According to the BJP's complaint, the peaceful protest was allegedly disrupted and incited by the Patna State Administration. During the incident, senior party leaders, including female workers, were reportedly subjected to police brutality, resulting in severe injuries.

It has been alleged that the police have not registered any FIR related to the incident, further raising concerns.

Reacting to the incident, BJP chief JP Nadda took to social media, expressing his dismay and blaming the state government for the lathi-charge. He asserted that the unfortunate event was a manifestation of the government's incompetence and failure.

Nadda accused the Bihar government of undermining democracy to protect the "fortress of corruption." This incident has escalated political tensions in the region, with BJP leader Sushil Modi condemning Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's handling of the situation and expressing condolences for the deceased party leader.
