New Delhi: The national capital received heavy rains on Thursday morning, causing waterlogging and traffic blocks in several parts of the city, PTI reported.

There were incidents of fallen trees, and traffic police received several calls for help with waterlogging, traffic congestion, etc. Police said they received calls of waterlogging from near Mayapuri flyover, Jhandewalan temple, Peeragarhi Chowk, Paschim Vihar, Punjabi Bagh etc. Traffic-related calls were received from Anand Vihar to Ghazipur, Shahdara, Dilshad Garden, etc, they said. Two trees fell in Mandir Marg and Mayur Vihar Phase-1 areas, they added.

The Akshardham area to the Ghazipur meat market reported heavy traffic issues due to waterlogging. Vehicles were extremely slow in the stretch. The Akshardham-Sarai Kale Khan also reported a traffic block.

Traffic congestion was heavy near the toll gate on NH-48 till Dhaula Kuan. In ITO, waterlogging induced traffic block.

Many users took to social media to brief their experience related to traffic in the national capital. There was heavy traffic on the airport route from Raja Garden marble market to Naraina, from Meera Bagh/Vikaspuri flyover towards Peeragarhi, and on the Mahipalpur-Gurgaon route.

Many areas in the southern state of Kerala witnessed heavy rains on Wednesday night, prompting the India Meteorological Department to issue orange alerts in seven districts. The remaining seven districts were issued with yellow alerts, PTI reported.

Kerala State Disaster Management Authority said on Thursday that heavy rains with maximum surface wind speed up to 40 Kmph were expected in many places in the northern districts of Kasaragd and Kannur.

On Thursday morning, a car went into a swollen river in Kasaragod after Google Maps guided it to a bridge, which was submerged and had no barricade.
